Mactan Island is the first point of arrival in the Philippines for many travelers to the Philippines if they do not enter the country through Manila. Numerous beautiful beach resorts are located in close proximity to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and invite you to a pleasant first stay to recover from the stresses of travel and get used to the tropical climate.
Attached you will find a list of the best beach resorts on Mactan Island, which I can highly recommend. I have personally reviewed all facilities over the years where I live here in Cebu and I spend as often as I can some quality time at those resorts with my wife.
The Maribago is rightly one of the most popular resorts on Mactan and is also one of my all time favorites. The friendly staff serves a great breakfast buffet and offers solid value for money.
Tips: In front of the resort there is a good and cheaper spa – for those, whom the massages in the Maribago complex are too expensive. After recent renovations, we can especially recommend the beautiful “Premium Deluxe Rooms”.
Not far from the Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort you will find the Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel, which is priced similarly, and in our opinion also belongs to the good options in the middle to upper price range.
In the luxury class Abaca is clearly one of my top three favorites on Mactan Island. Even if the Abaca does not have its own stretch of beach, the beautiful infinity pool is perfect for a refreshing dip. Also, at some of the other resorts at Mactan I would say that the beaches are rather mediocre, and if you want to spend a nice beach holiday I would undoubtedly recommend going to the province.
At Abaca I can especially recommend the excellent cuisine of the restaurant. The Abaca Group is known for creating new great restaurants like the Maya Mexican Restaurant at Crossroads/Banilad in Cebu-City. But, to me the “Maya” is one of my favorite places with perhaps the best margaritas in the country to enjoy.
Probably the best-known resort on Mactan Island is Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu. The luxury 5-star resort has also been the venue for some of the biggest triathlons in Asia, the Ironman 70.3 Philippines. The complex is quite large and pompous and rightly belongs to the absolute top addresses with a nice small beach and the plant-based treats they serve are absolutely stunning.
Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan is among the top 3 best beach resorts on Mactan. Comparable to the Shangri-La’s I would prefer this resort, because it is a little smaller and the water activities are exciting too.
Incidentally, the Crimson has its own training center for its staff, which enjoys great popularity among young people in the Philippines and is also particularly suitable for a family holiday with children.
Another top hotel in Punta Engano is next to the Shangri La’s and the Abaca the Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. This ultra-modern resort is also great for a trip to nearby Bird Sanctuary Olango Island.
The Plantation Bay Resort and Spa should not be missing in my collection, of course. This lagoon alike complex is very spacious and houses several delicious restaurants. The resort is so big that it even provides its own bikes to get from A to B.
The Cebu White Sands Resort and Spa is also located right next to the Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort and is one of the lower priced beach resorts on Mactan island. But, I would still give this hotel 4 out of 5 stars.
The former Imperial Palace is very popular with Japanese and South Korean guests. The latter romp about in large groups on Mactan Island, because there are several schools, especially South Korean youth learn English. The hotel complex includes a waterpark which allows kids (but not only) to have fun all day long.
The Nalusuan Island Resort and Marine Sanctuary is not on Mactan Island directly, but a few kilometers before on its own small island, but we did not want to leave this unmentioned. The diving and snorkeling grounds are extremely good around Nalusuan and we also managed to find the rooms.
If you’d like to learn more about one or the other of the hotels I suggested above, just feel free to click on the resort’s name title in the blogpost and you’ll come out on the website of the respective hotel resort.
