Among other innovative initiatives, the municipality was able to showcase a 30 minute video show, in a professional way produced by an expert crew in communication, each month around the activities and happenings taking place in the small town of Diekirch located in the north of Luxembourg with their own web TV show “Diekirch TV.”
It is staggering to me that other major cities in Luxembourg are simply incapable of following in Diekirch’s footsteps. That Lydie Polfer, mayor of Luxembourg-City, Dan Biancalana, mayor of Dudelange, and Georges Mischo, mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette, are unable to match this level of quality communication service in their municipalities for their citizens, despite being on the podium of the three largest cities in Luxembourg. And what can I say about Esch/Alzette being European Capital of Culture in 2022, they squandered another unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on their city.
It is unfortunate that in the twenty-first century, these municipalities are still not making the best use of what new media and communication have to offer in order to present the best side of their town to the public, attract new business, and demonstrate how appealing their city is to residents in terms of culture, leisure, and lifestyle. They simply pass up a fantastic opportunity here.
Claude Haagen, now minister of agriculture in the Luxembourg government and former mayor of Diekirch, on the other hand made a smart move and was the driving force behind the establishment of a professional communication service at the administration level of the municipality of Diekirch, recruiting national authorities from the Luxembourg communication and entertainment industry.
This project, I believe, helped him become a minister in the Luxembourg government, because he was able to raise awareness about his small town and create a positive image of Diekirch through this method of communication. In the process, he was able to throw a positive light on the work balance of the municipality council under his leadership to his constituency, providing him with the necessary legitimacy to ascend to the ministerial position.
But let’s shift our attention away from politics and back to the project’s communication and media components.
The 30-minute TV show they produce for the city each month highlights businesses, cultural activities, entertainment, and leisure attractions, and they even shine a spotlight on the sports associations from their municipality, which is a great way to help them draw attention to their events.
Diekirch TV is a fantastic web TV show produced by an expert crew of the municipality of Diekirch for the population of Diekirch. It’s a great resource for both citizens of Diekirch and people from all over Luxembourg, as it provides a wealth of information and entertainment as they can discover the activities that took place in town and to find out what they missed out on. All this through short 30 minutes TV show that offers well-produced entertaining TV reports. At the end of the TV show, they discover what other interesting offerings will be coming their way in the next weeks thanks to an agenda that is presented as the show’s completion.
Like this people of Diekirch and surrundings won’t miss anything that’s going on in town, if they simply watch their TV show that airs once a month.
One of the best things about Diekirch TV is the variety of content it offers. From local news, sports activities and events even to interviews with interesting figures in the community, there’s always something new and interesting to watch. The show also features cultural programming, including concerts, theater performances, and exhibitions, giving viewers a chance to experience the rich artistic tradition of Diekirch and the surrounding region.
Another great aspect of Diekirch TV is its accessibility. The show is available to stream online on Youtube, making it easy for anyone with an internet connection to tune in whenever it suits them. This is especially convenient for those who may not have the opportunity to attend events in person, as it allows them to experience an overview all that Diekirch has to offer from the comfort of their own home.
Overall, Diekirch TV is an invaluable resource for anyone living in or interested in Diekirch. It provides a wide range of high-quality programming that is both informative and entertaining, and its online availability makes it easy for anyone to tune in and stay up to date on all the latest happenings in the community. If you’re not already a fan of Diekirch TV, be sure to give it a watch – you won’t be disappointed!
But of course, not everything in Diekirch is perfect either, and there is always room for improvement, but for a small town in Luxembourg, I have to applaud them for the fantastic job they already do at the service of their citizens, and knowing the crew that works very hard every day, I am confident that they will come up with new ideas and concepts on their own to improve their communication services to the benefit of their population.
I invite all other mayors in Luxembourg and beyond to take a hard look at Diekirch TV and consider hiring a team of professionals or outsourcing the service to an agency to improve your communication duties and provide your inhabitants with the service they deserve.
